The rehabilitation of the fifth floor of the defunct National Development Bank NDB is going on to revamp the Sierra Leone Stock Exchange.

The stock exchange was operating in the premise of the Bank of Sierra Leone since it was established in The new management and the players in the market including the Central Bank, the National Commission for Privatisation NCP , the National Social Security and Insurance Trust NASSIT , boards of directors of various state enterprises are meeting to float some of their shares on the market as a way of revamping ahead of the re-launch by President Koroma in October this year.

The stock exchange started with trading in one listed company Rokel Commercial Bank and the new move is to have more companies listed to make the market attractive.

Discussions are going on to have shares of Golden Tulip, Radisson Blue, HFC Mortgage and Services and Sierra Leone Commercial Bank listed on the stock to attract investors. Next Thursday there will be a presentation at NASSIT with Boards of Directors of the various state run enterprises.

The Governor of the Bank of Sierra Leone Dr Kaifala Marah, the Commissioner of the NCP Dr Micheal Kargbo and others will be in attendance.

The focus would be on processes of listing and trading on the stock, Mr Daniel Serry, General Manager of First Discount House said in a phone interview.

The Stock Exchange was established as a market place for trading of Equities, Commodities, Bonds, Forex and Derivatives.

But this was not fully achieved. First Discount House is one of the brokerage firms that have been trading on the exchange.

There is now a local content policy, which is meant to empower more people to participate in the market.
